Giffords Supporters Hit the Streets During Special Election

Neighbors Talk to Neighbors in ‘Cactus-Roots’ Campaign

TUCSON, Ariz. €“ Demonstrating the broad support that former State Senator Gabrielle Giffords has built in her campaign for Congress, 77 volunteers greeted voters in the vicinity of 49 polling locations throughout the Tucson area during Tuesday’s special election. Giffords also talked with voters in the morning outside of her polling place at St. Mark’s Presbyterian Church, at 3809 E. 3rd St. in Tucson.

“We believe that the most effective campaigns are built on personal contact in the community, and the volunteers in our Cactus Roots organization have been outstanding,” Giffords said. “Democracy is at its best when people talk with their neighbors about our country’s future.”

Supporters of Giffords handed out literature for their candidate and collected petition signatures to place Giffords’ name on the ballot.

“It’s exciting that so many people are eager to brave the triple-digit heat to help our campaign,” Giffords said. “I am grateful for their hard work and support.”
