Giffords Wins Backing of Twenty-First Century Democrats

TUCSON - Gabrielle Giffords has won the backing of Twenty-First Century Democrats, a national organization that “seeks out, trains, and supports extraordinary, visionary leaders — the courageous risk takers committed to the fulfillment of America’s promise.” (www.21stcenturydems.org)

Twenty-First Century Democrats supports candidates who “lead by example, who unwaveringly stand for their values, and who reach out to all Americans.” The organization believes that “it is vital to make certain that the individuals being elected to lead our country are authentic, innovative thinkers who have the ability to lead America in a new direction.”

“Gabrielle Giffords is precisely the kind of visionary leader we need in the US Congress,” said Kelly C. Young, president of Twenty-First Century Democrats. “She understands that we have a void in this country — in the twenty-first century we are missing leaders like John F. Kennedy and Martin Luther King, Jr. Based on her core values of equality and fairness, Gabrielle has developed the bold proposals to lead us out of the current quagmire in Washington. She will challenge us all to move beyond politics-as-usual and inspire Americans to strive for a new frontier, like President Kennedy did when he challenged us to go to the moon.”

Giffords thanked the organization for their support of her campaign for a new direction in Washington. “Standing up for what’s right and trying to make a difference for all people — not just the privileged and connected — is what leadership is all about, and what Southern Arizonans expect,” Giffords said.
