Business and Industry Supports Gabrielle Giffords
BIPAC Cites Giffords’ Pro-Business, Consensus-Building Credentials
TUCSON - The Business and Industry PAC has endorsed Gabrielle Giffords’ campaign for Congress, recognizing her moderate, common sense, pro-business record in the Legislature and underscoring her advocacy of policies that create jobs and help Arizona’s economy.
“Gabrielle Giffords’ pro-business credentials and track record of consensus-building in Arizona’s state legislature position her to be a key member of the business coalition in the 110th Congress,” said BIPAC President and CEO Greg Casey.
A small businesswoman who served as President and CEO of her family’s tire business, El Campo Tire, Giffords has always advocated for responsible, common sense policies to create jobs, grow Arizona’s economy, and help small business:
- In the legislature, Giffords served on both the Governor’s Council on Innovation and Technology as well as the Governor’s Hot Team on Economic Development.
- Giffords supported the small business investments tax credit to encourage taxpayers to invest money in businesses that are in early stages of development. (SB 1335 in 2005)
- Giffords sponsored legislation to develop new economy clusters of high-tech industries. (HB 2366 and HB 2438, both in 2001)
- Giffords sponsored the Rural Quality Employment Incentives act that provided tax credits to businesses in rural areas to promote economic development and create jobs. (HB 2612 in 2001)
- Giffords sponsored legislation to increase the research and development tax credit. (SB 1370 in 2004)
- Giffords won the Top 10 Technology Legislator of the Year award for three straight years - 2003, 2004, and 2005, for her advocacy of policies that help small businesses.
- Giffords was named Woman of the Year by Tucson Business Edge in 2005.
The group had endorsed Steve Huffman in the CD-8 Republican primary. 22 of the 25 candidates that BIPAC has endorsed for Congress in 2006 are Republicans.
