Sally Cushman
Sally Cushman, retired psychologist, wife, mother & grandmother has been selected as Gabrielle Giffords’ April Supporter of the Month. Sally was born in Concord, MA and moved to Phoenix with her family when she was 14. After attending North Phoenix High School, Sally went off to college, eventually receiving her Ph.D. in psychology from Ohio State University. Along the way she met and married her husband and raised three beautiful daughters.
In 1986 Sally moved €˜home’ to Tucson. “It’s always felt like home here. Whenever I went away, I always felt like I was coming back to my true home in Tucson.”
When asked why she became involved in Gabrielle’s campaign for Congress, Sally answered, “Quite simply? I was fed up. I was sick of all the pandering that politicians were always doing. I felt like it was time for me to do more than simply vote.”
Besides citing the Congresswoman’s “terrific energy,” Sally attributes “Gabrielle’s willingness to go out and say what she believes” as a major reason she would vote for her again. She also feels that Congresswoman Giffords’ ideas for Arizona and her committee assignments are crucial factors to consider: “I think she’s on the right track and she’s managed to get on committees which are very important to Southern Arizona and to Arizona as a whole.”
