Giffords gives keynote address at annual Sahuaro Girl Scout Council meeting

The annual meeting for Sahuaro Girl Scout Council was held on April 21 at the Berger Performing Arts Center, Arizona State School for the Deaf and Blind. The area forums met for discussions and input of the Girl Scout volunteers on what they see ahead for this Girl Scout council.
This was followed by the business meeting and election of board members. Kristin Simpson, UBS, gave a presentation on the future of the country depending on all citizens.
The three top cookie sellers were recognized for selling more than 1,000 boxes. Representative Gabrielle Giffords was the keynote speaker for the meeting. She was a Girl Scout in the Sahuaro Council while in elementary school, and she remarked about Girl Scout outings at Whispering Pines on Mount Lemmon. She encouraged the young girls of today that doing service for their community and being involved with what is happening now can affect what is happening down life’s road to the future. After all, girls of today are helping with shaping tomorrow’s future.
The adults recognized for their time, talent and being outstanding leaders in the Sahuaro Girl Scout Council – Janis Wheat of Sierra Vista was presented with the appreciation pin. She is the San Pedro Service unit manager, as well as the leader for Brownie GS Troop No. 419, Junior GS Troop No. 104 and Cadette/Senior GS Troop No. 1224.
Council recognized Cadette Girl Scouts for earning their Silver Award during this Girl Scout year were Kayleigh Caparulo, Katie Husson, Brooke Ingerson, Brenda Martinez, Adrinna Martinez, Laura Tinkcom, and Amanda Wheat. This is the highest award that the Cadette Girl Scout age level can earn. Council also recognized the Senior Girl Scouts for the earning of their Gold Award.

This is the highest award that a Senior Girl Scout can earn, recognized was Jennifer Lotts.
The event ended with the gatherings of friends visiting with each other and doing just as Girls Scouts say: “Make new friends, keep the old, one is silver, and the other is gold.”Sahuaro Girl Scout Council holds its annual meeting
