Internet giant Google Inc. and Arizona’s four Democratic congressional members are being honored by the Arizona Human Rights Fund, a prominent gay rights group.
The Human Rights Fund is honoring California-based Google, which has operations Tempe, as well as U.S. Reps. Harry Mitchell, Gabrielle Giffords, Raul Grijalva and Ed Pastor for their support for gay rights and equality.
The group said it likes Google’s treatment of gay and lesbian employees and the Democrats’ stances on issues related to gay rights.
The HRF opposes state and federal gay marriage prohibitions and wants sexual orientation to be covered under civil rights and discrimination laws.
Mitchell and Giffords are first-term congressional members who won previously Republican seats in the 2006 elections. The GOP hopes to win Mitchell’s Scottsdale/Tempe seat and Giffords’ Tucson seat back in 2008.
Google and the four Democrats will receive awards from the gay rights group at the organization’s annual dinner June 16.
