Giffords for Congress Spring Interns
The Spring Interns are Gabrielle Giffords’ Supporter of the Month for April 2008.
Freddie Arbona is originally from Spain. He and his family moved to Prescott when he was five. He is a junior at the University of Arizona studying Political Science and Economics. Freddie, a registered Republican, supports Congresswoman Giffords because, “she reaches across the aisle. I didn’t want to sit on the sidelines anymore, and wanted to make sure the right people get into office.” Freddie feels especially passionate about Gabrielle’s work on the environment.
Elisha Ganstwig is a senior graduating from the University of Arizona with a degree in political science. Elisha was drawn to the campaign because it’s “one of the hottest races in the country”. She wanted to gain experience working for someone she views as a “great role model for young women.” She admires Gabrielle’s “ability to work across party lines and bring honesty and integrity to DC.”
Keosha Hooks, from Phoenix, is a graduate of the Arizona State University where she studied social work. She is currently in her first year’s masters program in public administration. Keosha’s interest in non-profit fundraising lead her to a Finance Internship with the Campaign. Although not a “political junkie,” Keosha seized the chance to get the experience. “I’m so glad I am part of the campaign . I fully support Gabrielle in every way,” says Keosha.
Macie Kriger was born and raised in Memphis, Tennessee. She is a junior, majoring in Political Science, at the University of Arizona. When she graduates, Macie plans on going to law school in Chicago. Macie learned about the internship from her political science professor. “I had heard about what a great person Gabrielle is and I was excited for the experience,” Macie says. “It’s truly a wonderful opportunity to intern for such an amazing person as Gabrielle.”
Jillian Mackillop is a graduating senior from Mountain View High School. She will attend the University of Arizona in the fall. Jillian started volunteering in the Fall of 2007. “I just loved meeting all the people who came to help and when I was offered the opportunity to be an intern at the campaign office, I just grabbed it,” she says. “It is so rewarding to be part of this experience.”
Jon Thomas, originally from Montreal, Canada, moved to Arizona with his family in 1996. Jon will graduate from the University of Arizona in December with a Psychology major and Political Science minor. Wanting to learn more about the political process and get some hands on experience, he researched different candidates. “I selected Gabrielle as she clearly lines up with my views,” he says. “I identify with her stance on a great many things.”
Magnolia Swanson is graduating from Cienega High School in Vail. She will attend Arizona State University in the fall majoring in political science. Magnolia’s mother has been a volunteer with Gabrielle since she was in the Arizona House and Magnolia has continued that legacy. She did a senior journalism project at KGUN9 this spring and by combining journalism and her interest in politics, Magnolia believes these two fields can start her on the path to becoming the next Katie Couric.
David Ware is a senior at Salpointe High School. He will attend the University of Arizona in the fall majoring in business and political science. David’s interest in politics began when he attended Boy’s State, a mock government model for students. David was recently nominated for a 2008 Tucson Citizen Student Achievement Award.
