Giffords for Congress Summer Interns

The bright and dedicated interns from this summer are Gabrielle Giffords’ Supporters of the Month for August 2008. The next generation made their voices heard this summer, with over 20 young adults from Arizona participating in summer internships for Gabrielle’s campaign.

They did everything from calling voters to coordinating 4th of July activities across the Congressional District. Much of the intern team was made up of current and former University of Arizona students, among them Paloma Fleming, Robert Fruchtman, Kyle Kirsch, Jillian MacKillop, David Berens and Sean Aiken.

Other interns came from distant locales to work on the campaign, such as Alexander Katz, who atttends McCallister College; Danielle Raines, a student at John Hopkins University; and USC student Jeffrey Skinner.

Tucson high schools were also represented by the presence and hard work of Kira O’Shea and Sabrina Serrano.

Some split their summer between Tucson and foreign travels, like Hayley Evans, who interned after studying abroad in Spain. David Ware walked like an Egyptian in Cairo, and Tom Bryan explored China when not interning this summer.

Other interns hailed from diverse (and not always political) backgrounds, such as Eli Alster, a member of his school’s chess team; David Hernandez, Jr., a gifted intern and flobotomist, horse-lover Brittany McLellan, competitive swimmer Dari Zwart, and newly registered voter Jeremy DuBois.

All of the summer interns contributed a unique drive and commitment to the campaign, and their hard work added to the momentum and excitement we have sustained going into the fall election season.
