Carolyn Kemmeries
Carolyn Kemmeries is Gabrielle Giffords’ Supporter of the Month for October.

Carolyn knows Gabrielle as more than just her congresswoman – she was Gabrielle’s principal at University High School. She decided to campaign for Gabrielle because she saw just how closely Gabrielle has stuck to her roots.
“I knew when she was young that she was incredibly capable and had an amazing amount of integrity. Gabby’s also very accessible and at the local level that’s really important.”
Although there are a great deal of pressing concerns that public officials have to contend with, Gabrielle still prioritizes public education in her district.
“Gabby really gets it,” she said. “I have a lot of faith in her that she will handle these things well. She’s a quick study, and she’s willing to study. I feel like we need that.”
Carolyn said she has always been interested in electing people who are committed to public education.
Born in Illinois, Carolyn attended the University of Arizona and began her teaching career in Tucson.
Carolyn was a dedicated and distinguished educator throughout her career, and even into her retirement. She taught literature and composition and was a counselor for 22 years, before moving into administration for 17 years and retiring as a principal. Post-retirement she sat on the Tucson Unified School District governing board for four years.
Carolyn has also served on numerous other boards, including the University of Arizona National Alumni Association Board of Directors, the Opening Minds Through Arts Foundation, Tucson Medical Center Foundation, various civic and neighborhood boards, and the UA’s School of Dance Advisory Board.
