The Kelly-Paton Plan to Privatize Social Security… in their own words

Giffords Cactus-Roots Coalition Knocks Doors to Stand Up for Social Security on its 75th Anniversary

As Jonathan Paton and Jesse Kelly spend Social Security’s 75th birthday threatening to privatize it, Gabrielle Giffords’ Cactus Roots supporters will take to the doors and phones to stand up for our seniors’ retirement security.

Kelly and Paton have resurrected the failed plan to privatize Social Security–but they refuse to explain how current retirees’ benefits can be met under their risky scheme.  But you don’t have to take our word for it; take theirs.

Gabrielle Giffords stands up for Southern Arizona seniors and has made a commitment to Protect Not Privatize Social Security.  Southern Arizonans who reject the Kelly-Paton plan to gamble our retirement security in the stock market can sign Gabrielle’s Protect Social Security! petition online at www.giffordsforcongress.com .

This Saturday, our Cactus Roots supporters will take the fight to protect Social Security door-to-door, spreading out across Southern Arizona for a Social Security Day of Action.  Volunteers will knock on doors and make phone calls to inform voters about the Kelly-Paton plan to privatize Social Security and enlist support in Gabrielle’s effort to protect it.

Gabrielle Giffords is a third generation Southern Arizonan and the only military spouse in Congress. Gabrielle is not like other politicians. She’s voted against a Congressional pay raise every time one has come up, and she doesn’t make earmark requests for campaign contributors. She takes an independent view on the issues and was rated Arizona’s most moderate member of Congress by the National Journal in 2009. Most importantly, Gabrielle stands up for Southern Arizona by working across the aisle to secure the border, protect our servicemen and veterans and create jobs by investing in solar energy.
