We’re Winning

Well, this is a close election – as we knew it would be. We have been in the lead since the polls closed, and what we are waiting for now are thousands of early ballots that were walked into those polls on Election Day.

We are optimistic that our roughly 2,500-vote lead will hold and we will win. It has already held strong through returns from Marana, Cochise County and Saddlebrooke. And we won the early ballots by over 10,000 votes.

We will learn more over the next day or two and will keep you updated. I’ve attached our press release on the election results below as well.

For now, there is one thing we know with certainty. Our success in this election is a direct result of the hard work of our Cactus Roots team. Your work, your strength and your character are inspiring.

Thank you for all that you do. We’re winning!

AZ-08 Update on Election Results: Giffords’ Lead Holds Strong

Tucson, Ariz. – Gabrielle Giffords’ roughly 2,500-vote lead in the AZ-08 race has held strong, as it has since the counting began.

“We do not know what the final margin of victory will be,” said Rodd McLeod, campaign manager for Giffords for Congress. “Our analysis of the remaining early vote gives ample reason for confidence.”

Here is what is known

According to the Arizona Secretary of State, all but one precinct in the district has reported its results. Giffords maintained her lead through reporting from Marana, Saddlebrooke and Cochise County.
Thousands of early ballots were walked into the polls on Election Day in Pima County, Cochise County, Santa Cruz County and Pinal County. These remain to be verified and counted.
Giffords won the early vote count by over 10,000 votes. We are optimistic that this trend will continue as the remaining early ballots are counted.
“Gabrielle Giffords took the lead shortly after the polls closed,” said Giffords for Congress campaign chair Michael McNulty. “She was in the lead last night, she is in the lead now and she will lead when the count is complete.”

Speaking last night at the Marriott University Park Hotel, Gabrielle thanked the hundreds of volunteers and supporters for “[basing] our campaign not on politics but on solutions to real problems.”
