Giffords’ Lead Increases

Additional returns from Cochise and Pima counties today bolster Giffords’ margin over Kelly to 3,055 votes.

Giffords has led since polls closed on Tuesday. As of Wednesday night, Giffords’ lead was 2,349 votes. The majority of uncounted ballots remaining are from Pima County, where Giffords’ has led overall.

Giffords Endorsed by Arizona’s Largest Public Safety Association

The Arizona Conference of Police and Sheriffs (AZCOPS) Local 7077 has endorsed Rep. Gabrielle Giffords.  In his endorsement letter, AZCOPS President Larry Lopez praised Gabrielle’s “support for public safety officers and willingness to listen to [their] concerns.”

AZCOPS is Arizona’s largest association of public safety officers, with more than 8,000 members from 95 local police and sheriffs affiliates. As the “voice for officers in their hometowns,” the Association’s mission is to ensure officers have the tools they need to keep Arizona’s communities safe.

Giffords for Congress raises nearly $600,000 in second quarter

Outpouring of support from across Arizona shows enthusiasm for Giffords’ work standing up for Southern Arizona and fighting for border security, local solar energy jobs and our servicemembers and veterans.

Today Giffords for Congress will report nearly $600,000 raised in the second quarter of 2010 and more than $2.2 million cash on hand, the results of an impressive grassroots fundraising effort that includes more than 3,200 Arizonans so far this cycle.

The report, which will be filed today with the FEC, is the latest demonstration of Southern Arizona’s strong and growing support for Gabrielle’s work. In May, Gabrielle’s grassroots signature collection effort set a record for the most petition signatures collected by a congressional campaign in Arizona history.

Record Number of Petition Signatures Demonstrates Voter Enthusiasm for Giffords

Our top signature gatherers, Ross Hazlett, of Catalina; David Hosea, of Green Valley; and Roger Salzgeber, of Tucson.

Energized, effective volunteer team led a district-wide grassroots effort that netted the most signatures ever collected by a congressional candidate in Arizona.

Today, Giffords for Congress turned in a record-breaking 13,194 petition signatures to qualify Gabrielle Giffords for the ballot, demonstrating how Gabrielle’s work sending National Guard troops to the border, creating solar jobs in Southern Arizona and cutting middle class taxes is energizing voters more than ever.

Dr. Weil and other respected caregivers say congresswoman is the right choice for District 8

Giffords for Congress today announced support for Gabrielle Giffords from respected leaders of the Southern Arizona medical community.

Among the 20 caregivers and health care professionals announcing their support today are Dr. Ron Fischler, president of the Arizona Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics; Tucson Medical Center CEO Judy Rich; Arizona Hospital Association CEO John Rivers and acclaimed health and wellness leader Dr. Andrew Weil.

“These caregivers, researchers and other industry leaders understand that Gabrielle is a true champion for the health and well-being of Southern Arizona,” said Giffords for Congress campaign Chair Michael McNulty. “From supporting cutting edge research to making sure our community health centers have the resources they need to care for the most vulnerable in our community, Gabrielle fights for those individuals and organizations who keep our community healthy.”

Giffords for Congress today announced that leading Southern Arizona veterans have committed their support to Gabrielle Giffords.

Among the 10 Arizona veterans endorsing the congresswoman today are Sierra Vista Mayor Robert Strain, Arizona Veterans of Foreign Wars Commander Joe Reagan and retired General John Wickham, who served as U.S. Army Chief of Staff under President Ronald Reagan.
