Controlling the Federal Debt

American families have to live on a budget. The federal government should do the same—it’s common sense.

Southern Arizonans know that the record deficit we face today is a direct consequence of the failed, short-sighted fiscal policies of the last decade.

Too many people in Congress on both sides of the aisle are playing games with the debt, instead of making a serious effort at fiscal reform. We can’t afford to wait any longer to put our fiscal house in order.

As a member of the fiscally conservative Blue Dog Coalition, I believe that our nation needs to get its financial house in order. That’s why I co-sponsored a bill to create a bipartisan commission to examine all areas of federal spending and propose ways of reducing the national debt.

I have voted against wasteful spending and to reduce the deficit and follow the same fiscally conservative values that Arizona families do every day.

As your Congresswoman, I:

• Voted for Pay-As-You-Go rules that limit the growth in government spending so that we can rein in the deficit.
• Voted against the Auto Bailout.
• Voted against all salary increases for members of Congress
• Have not given bonuses to my staff
• Voted against raising the national debt limit – twice.
• Voted for the Improper Payments Elimination and Recovery Act which cracks down overpayments to individuals, organizations and contractors, saving American taxpayers $50 billion.
