Wilma Robertson of Bisbee, an 84-year old activist for the disadvantaged, has had a life’s journey that has taken her from a childhood raised on an Arizona ranch, to service as an aircraft mechanic in World War II, to helping César Chávez provide a voice to the working people of California’s Central Valley. She supports Giffords because of her ability to connect with people. “What impresses me about this woman is that she cares,” Wilma said. “She feels people’s pain. She cares about people and she really listens.”

Christine Dayton, a 37-year Southern Arizona resident and retired educator, was Gabrielle Giffords’ second-grade teacher at Tanque Verde Elementary School. “Gabrielle is our great hope. Grant Winston, an administrative law judge, said that “I can’t think of anyone who will do a better job for us in Washington” than Gabrielle Giffords. “She’s stood up for labor rights, families, the environment, and for those in society who cannot help themselves. Those are Democratic values, and those are the values I have.” Grant has volunteered on other campaigns, but he puts Gabrielle’s campaign on a different level. “I’ve not worked harder on a campaign,” he said. “I’ve not ever put more heart and soul into one.”
